Now that the roundabout is open to regular traffic, cars have been observed picking up speed quickly between both intersections (Ravine and at Squires/H Ave). The speed limit is still posted as 45 mph. There is no signage to slow traffic or to forewarn drivers of crosswalks. So, traffic does not have to slow down as they pass our entrance at Weston/Northfield Trail.
Several of us have recently experienced difficulty pulling out onto Drake (in both directions) due to the amount of traffic and speed of cars traveling between intersections. Certain times of day will be more heavily trafficked than others. Be mindful of crossing traffic due to the speed these cars are moving, as drivers may not be watching for traffic pulling out from our community.
The Road Commission has been asked to review the speed limit in this section of N. Drake Road, because of the walking and bicycle traffic near the Kal-Haven Trail. They indicated that this would take time to study and at this time there are no plans to do so. There is also no guarantee that they will make any changes if they do a study. If you experience difficulty pulling out or have concerns about the posted speed limit, you can voice your concerns to the Road Commission by calling them at (269) 381-3171, sending an email to them at info@kalamazoocountyroads.com or filling out their online form at:
